The setup program is a standard Windows installer. It is fully supported and gives the same result as the PowerShell install: the Xackup desktop app and the XackupAPI service, with the same service name, port and data folder. Use whichever you prefer.
Before you start
- Windows 10 (1607) or Windows Server 2016 or newer.
- An account that can install software (administrator).
- Internet access the first time. The setup program adds the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime, the ASP.NET Core 8 Runtime (both 32-bit) and WebView2 if they are missing.
Install
- On the Downloads page, download Setup program. It is a zip file.
- Unzip it. It contains
Install_Xackup_<version>.exe. - Run the
.exeand follow the wizard. - Start Xackup v2 from the Start menu.
To check the service:
Get-Service XackupAPI
It should be Running. Where files and data go is on Where things are.
Upgrade
Download the newer Setup program and run it. Jobs, saved servers and locations, and the license are kept: they live in C:\ProgramData\Fungusware\Xackup.
The setup program does not make the automatic data backup that the PowerShell installer makes. Before an important upgrade, copy that folder yourself, or use the PowerShell install for the upgrade.
Remove
Open Apps & features (or Programs and Features), choose Xackup v2 and uninstall it.
Switching methods
You can move between the two methods at any time. The PowerShell installer removes a setup-program install first and keeps your jobs and settings. See Upgrade.
